NOTE London Gazette entry (from Grafton Regis CD) Apr and May 1852 - an order for Thomas Tew of Stoke braern, a mason, builder, lime burner and stone dealer, an insolvent debtor. I am not sure which Thomas this relates to but it may be this one. In which case it was a temporary problem as he continued in busines.
NOTE: details taken from a book "A scrapbook of Ashton" published 1953. Extracts supplied by Allan Smith of Sheffield. - "Beside his four brothers, Thomas Tew also employed 4 other Stoke men and e from Ahston - James Leper, Benjamin Marriott and George Ashby, a young son of the licensee of the Crown." This relates to work for the Druke of Grafton Dec, 1856. In 1854 another account shows 4 Stoke men and 2 Ashton men working on a job for him.
