NOTE the following information comes from Marlene Shipman (email Spe 2002 & Apr 2006). "Ist Bedfordshire Regiment - Corporal John Charles Fairey No. 33397 (formerly Private 23194 of the Northampton Regiment) was born in Grendon, enlisted in Northampton and was a resident of Stoke Bruerne prior to being killed in action 16 March 1917 - one of 5 men from the Bedfordshire Regt. who died that particular day. This information was taken from the Beds War Diaries. In other words he was born elsewhere, moved to Stoke Bruerne at some stage, enlisted in one Regiment but was transferred to another before his death."
