However the parents of that one (after looking at the War Graves Site) do not match, and the Cpl J C Fairey of the 1st Bedfordshire regiment was only 22 years old.. Marlene Shipman has given more details (emails Sept 2002 and Apr 2006) "Ist Bedfordshire Regiment - Corporal John Charles Fairey No. 33397 (formerly Private 23194 of the Northampton Regiment) was born in Grendon, enlisted in Northampton and was a resident of Stoke Bruerne prior to being killed in action 16 March 1917 - one of 5 men from the Bedfordshire Regt. who died that particular day. This information was taken from the Beds War Diaries. In other words he was born elsewhere, moved to Stoke Bruerne at some stage, enlisted in one Regiment but was transferred to another before his death. I suppose it would depend which village "claimed" him after his death?"

Marlene Shipman has given more details (emails Sept 2002 and Apr 2006) "Ist Bedfordshire Regiment - Corporal John Charles Fairey No. 33397 (formerly Private 23194 of the Northampton Regiment) was born in Grendon, enlisted in Northampton and was a resident of Stoke Bruerne prior to being killed in action 16 March 1917 - one of 5 men from the Bedfordshire Regt. who died that particular day. This information was taken from the Beds War Diaries. In other words he was born elsewhere, moved to Stoke Bruerne at some stage, enlisted in one Regiment but was transferred to another before his death. I suppose it would depend which village "claimed" him after his death?" .
