NOTE there is a story in the NFHS magazine Footprints , vol23, no.1 August 2001, page 10 whjich tells of a Joe Shipp, whi in 1851 lived with his father at Roade. he stole five bullocks and drove them to Northamp[ton Market. He was arrested in London and hand-cuffed to a police Inspector, but managed to fall out of the carriage door at Ahston. The policeman had a broken leg so Joes managed to steal the key and unlock the nadcuffs and disappear. 70 years later a man said that he had hidden in a cash from his father's public house in Roade and travelled by goods train to Liverpool and thence to America.
